Main Shrine atop Enoshima Island

Description

During the Kamakura Period (1185–1333), the shrine was visited by samurai warriors to pray for victorious battles. However, during the much more peaceful Edo Period (1603-1867), the shrine became associated with praying for prosperity, healing of illnesses, safe childbirth, and safe travels.
