Ouji Shrine

Wooden carving of a mythical beast resembling a lion (唐獅子/karajishi or 獅子/shishi) under the eaves of Ouji Shrine to ward off evil spirits.

Such carvings can be of various other animals, both real and mythical, and can be seen under the eaves of both shrines and temples.
